Papain
Also Knows as: Papaya proteinase I
Papain is a proteolytic enzyme extracted from the raw fruit of the papaya plant (Carica papaya). Proteolytic enzymes help break proteins down into smaller protein fragments called peptides and amino acids. The enzymes help break down proteins. Papain has long been used in folk medicine to relieve pain, swelling, and inflammation. It can also improve digestive health and treat certain common infections.
